Cross-Laminated Timber Cube

In a three-person team, cross-laminated timber (CLT) panels were fabricated in order to further research new wood-technologies and their impact on future sustainable application.

CLT technologies are a relatively new technology, developed since the 1990s in Europe but with limited application within the United States. Because of its usage of cross-laminated wood, it is considered a green building mate- rial with structural ability similar to both steel and concrete. Additionally, be- cause CLTs must be produced before usage, they offer customization and pre-fabrication options.

In order to further examine the usage of CLT technologies and their viable usage within the United States, this team fabricated their own CLT panels from typical available lumber in order to create a section of a pavilion designed for student use as an inhabitable space.
